Corticothalamic circuits

Feedforward and feedback circuits interconnecting thalamus and cortex.

The thalamus and cerebral cortex are intimately interconnected by a reciprocal organization of feedforward and feedback circuits. Through studies using both anesthetized and alert animals, I have identified many of the neuronal mechanisms that underlie feedforward communication, including roles served by divergence and convergence and temporal summation, as well as the physiological properties and organization of corticogeniculate feedback.
